Nov. 29: Going Down the Hill

After enjoying a delizioso breakfast at the hotel, we continued on our journey through Assisi to what would be our “retreat home” for the duration of this year’s retreat.

Most enjoyed a spirited 6-minute van ride “down the hill” to the other side of town, while others walked – taking the longer scenic route – arriving a few hours (& many photos) later. Whatever the route, there was lots to see and chat about along the way!

Later that afternoon, we were treated to the first of many performances of a symphony of bells ringing around the hillside.

This inaugural experience included a gorgeous sunset, also sure to be the first of many.

Dinner held another special treat as we gathered together at Buca Di Francesco for our first meal as a complete group, and what a delicious meal it was! Cooked and served by a lovely couple, all courses were wonderfully tasty! And, oh, that housemade Tiramisu was one-of-a-kind creative!

After dinner, it was another quick taxi ride or stroll “down the hill” to sleep our first night at Hotel Giotto.

Contemplation: Where in your life have you “changed elevation” and what did you learn along the way?

The medieval city is still right there – as your drive shows.

Yes! So much (very, very old) history, all around us!
