It’s amazing how something once so far away could seem to be in our presence so quickly. It’s like this for many far-off events we plan: graduating high school, getting married, buying a house, having a baby, going on big vacations, retiring. And, it is true in this moment, too – what was once ages away is now almost here.

As we prepare to share our days together in Assisi, my thoughts turn to the Magi, who also embarked on a long journey and the date for whom, may have also seemed to “arrive suddenly” after years of preparation and months of journeying.

Still, we prepare. And, while we may have been journeying for a long time to get to “this space”, we have yet to start our travels to Assisi. The time will come, soon enough, and when it does, we shall be ready.
